The Assam Institute of Management (AIM) is the only State Government sponsored autonomous management institute in the country. In 1988, the Government of Assam promoted this institute to propagate professional management in the northeastern part of India. The Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam is the ex-officio Chairman of the Institute. Among others, the Director of IIM Calcutta is also the ex-officio member of the governing body.
